specialized injections

The Northlands Medical Clinic is pleased to offer patients specialized injections, performed by clinic physicians trained and experienced in their administration and use. If you have any questions regarding whether you are a good candidate for a particular specialized injection, or would like to be assessed, please make an appointment to see a physician at the Northlands Medical Clinic and state your interest or question when booking the appointment. Please be advised that specialized injections often involve an private cost to the patient, but that many patients with extended healthcare coverage may qualify for some reimbursement.

Joint injections may be beneficial and include use of injections of

2. corticosteroid injections

DurolaneÆ (Viscosupplement)

DurolaneÆ is an therapeutic gel that is injected into joints afflicted with debilitating Osteoarthirtis in order to provide temporary relief from symptoms of pain and stiffness. DurolaneÆ is made from Hyaluronic Acid, the body’s own natural joint lubricant. It acts as to lubricate and cushion the joint. While DurolaneÆ treatment is not a permanent solution and provides only temporary relief, for many it allows a return to activities that would otherwise not be possible due to pain and/or stiffness in the joint.

Corticosteroid Injections are anti-inflammatory products which are injected into a joint or bursa in addition to a local anesthetic. They are safe and effective for appropriate uses but have restricted applications. They are not a substitute to an appropriate rehabilitation program but rather used in conjunction with other methods of therapeutic rehabilitation may assist in resolving your symptoms. This is at the discretion of the treating physician.



A newer therapy initially known only for cosmetic purposes has multiple therapeutic applications:

Botox®, or Botulinum Toxin Type A, is an approved treatment in Canada for various conditions, including select Neurological indications such as migraine or tension headache. Treatments may also be helful for severe sweating (hyperhydrosis) and trigger point injections for painful muscles. Cosmetic procedures are only the best known of the applications.
